Speaker: Dr Rupert Soar
Dr Rupert Soar will describe the continuing developments in freeform construction and the startling discoveries surrounding termite mound ventilation strategies. Dr Soar is pioneering new capabilities for digital architecture through freeform construction. Based on scaled rapid manufacturing processes, fabricated structures will exceed the capabilities of traditional structures by integrating physiomimetic processes at the core of the design process.
To illustrate this, Dr Soar will demonstrate how natural ventilation systems have emerged from the study of termites and their incredible mounds. He will demonstrate for the first time the complexity of mound physiology is revealed as a transferable technology made possible through freeform construction methods.
The lecture will be followed by a drinks reception.
