Sir Peter Cook presents...Heneghan Peng
Peter Cook writes: 'We were out there again in Cairo, as a jury that had worked its way through more than 1500 entries for the Great Egyptian Museum. The final 20 (second round)… the final six (ninth day)…a clear winner. Exquisitely worked, clear, sophisticated ...but who? We ran theories, we set up a book; the envelope was opened in the presence of a lawyer
HENEGHAN & PENG, DUBLIN.
"Who are they?"
All our theories were wrong. We rushed to the web (not quite emerging from under a stone)...Harvard, a couple of competition wins, one under construction in Ireland. New York's 'young architects of the year' – a bit of this or that. When phoned they thought it was a prank. They phoned back minutes later
"Is it really Cairo on the line?"
The rest is history; a sizeable office is churning out the WD's, two more major competitions have been won. Another story that will reveal how, over the last 10 or so years, they’ve hung on in there at a very high level.'
