In 2002 sixteen makers were appointed the first architects in residence at Kielder. No outcome was requested, only that they continued to explore their work within the context of the park. For the present phase of the residency they developed climate-responsive surveying tools for Kielder which they have described as probes. These both record and respond to the climate. This in turn will indicate how chosen environments would affect an architecture that aspires to be adaptable to its location.
