The Essex Design Initiative (EDI) is celebrating 35 years of the Essex Design Guide with an exhibition at The Building Centre. “Place-making in Essex”, will revisit the groundbreaking Essex Design Guide´s creation and examine its ongoing influences, highlighting the county´s drive for design quality.
The Guide came into being when post-war housing in England was criticised for following “prairie-planning” principles, with units lacking in human scale and visual interest. Since the 1970´s ECC has pursued a “people first”approach to new development and has been consistently bold and innovative in tackling design deficiencies.
The exhibition aims to provide industry professionals, planners and decision makers with the inspiration to deliver high quality interventions in urban and rural environments in Essex and beyond, learning from the past while looking forward to an exciting future.
