An Illustrated talk by Styliane Philippou
Still active today the centenarian Oscar Niemeyer continues to create his sensuous, evocative and enigmatic projects. In this talk Styliane Philippou, a well known architect and architectural historian, examines a selection of Niemeyer´s major schemes over a long and productive life including projects in Europe, Africa and the Middle East as well as in his native Brazil. Dr Philippou studied architecture at the NFU, Athens and at Edinburgh University. She has a special interest in Brazilian modernism and is the author of a new and detailed study entitled Oscar Niemeyer: Curves of Irreverence, New Haven: Yale 2008, which is also the title of the evening´s talk.
