Concrete Quarterly 70th anniversary exhibition launch

In celebration of Concrete Quaterly’s 70th Anniversary, The Concrete Centre has curated a three month exhibition named 70 years of Concrete Quaterly. The exhibition explores the social and architectural history of concrete architecture and engineering over the past 70 years, through a selection of images and editorial of iconic and interesting projects from the CQ archive.

This launch event will include a drinks reception and lecture by Rab Bennetts, founding director of Bennetts Associates who are also celebrating their 30th Anniversary.

Rab’s lecture titled ‘Reflections on concrete: Saatchi & Saatchi London and other projects’ will illustrate the development of the practice’s work. Starting with its pioneering work on sustainability where concrete structures played a pivotal role, Rab will also discuss the way in which current projects continue to pursue the notion of architectural ‘integrity’ in an era often characterised by superficiality. Indeed, for the last thirty years concrete has been an inspiration and the practice has always used its inherent qualities to express the essence of architectural form and structure.

The talk will also preview current projects, such as Jaguar Land Rover’s huge development in the Midlands, two new projects for Edinburgh University and headquarters offices in London for Saatchi & Saatchi and the Royal College of Pathologists.

The event is free, but booking is essential. For bookings, click here

The event is produced by The Concrete Centre and supported by The Built Environment Trust.
