Tom Emerson will explain how a new white concrete stair, cantilevered from the wall, helps to echo the domestic character of two former eighteenth century Huguenot houses which have become Raven Row Gallery in Spitalfields.

Gill Lambert will discuss a warm poured concrete hearth and stair which provides a centre for family life in the house - the pattern of the reclaimed chevron parquet flooring repeated in the surface of the concrete, encouraging domestic and historical associations for an unfamiliar material.

William Smalley will describe Leaf House - an essay in sobriety, proportion and the updating of the classic Georgian town house, which includes a concrete basement. Internally the spaces are on a generous scale with simple finishes, including exposed concrete stair, floor and structural piers in the basement.

Concrete Elegance is hosted by David Bennett and is produced by the Concrete Centre in association with The Building Centre.
