Recognising that existing homes are responsible for a quarter of the UK’s damaging carbon dioxide emissions the 2010 British Homes Awards, in partnership with The Gentoo Group and the National Refurbishment Centre, challenged architects to submit their innovative energy efficient retrofit design solutions for a terrace of four houses in Sunderland. From the submissions exhibited at The Vincent Gallery between 5-23 October the panel of judges, chaired by Sunand Prasad PPRIBA, will short-list five schemes which will be presented to readers of The Daily Telegraph for their vote. The winning design, announced by RIBA President Ruth Reed at this year’s Stirling Prize, will be developed by The Gentoo Group in partnership with the architect. All designs exhibited at this gallery will inspire the energy efficient refurbishment of our existing housing stock and will be presented on ecohomehub.com, the UK’s most comprehensive showcase of energy efficient homes.
