Alumasc’s Euroroof Mastergold flat roof membrane has provided the optimum waterproofing solution for the urgent roof refurbishment on the sports complex at Wymondham College in Norfolk.

Wymondham College is a unique state day and boarding school, and following problems with the roof of the swimming pool and sports hall, Alumasc was called in by the roofing contractors, TC Garrett Ltd. Alumasc carried out a full condition survey and found that the original waterproofing was failing, in addition to a significant amount of standing water on the roof due to insufficient falls. The rooflights had also degraded badly.

Alumasc recommended stripping back the roof to the concrete deck and replacing it with a new warm roof incorporating a cut to falls tapered system which would solve the problems of the standing water. Euroroof Mastergold was chosen due to its suitability for warm roof refurbishment applications. The 20-year warranty was an important factor in the specification, and both roofing contractor and client were impressed with the aesthetics of the charcoal mineral finish.

Following removal of the old waterproofing and installation of a new vapour control layer and tapered insulation system, TC Garrett installed 1200 square metres of Euroroof Mastergold over a thermo-adhesive underlay. The installation involved intricate detailing around the new rooflights and work had to be carried out during challenging winter conditions, whilst also ensuring the school could remain open throughout.

Euroroof Mastergold transforms working with traditional bituminous membranes, speeding up installation time without compromising long-term performance. Manufactured in accordance with ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004, Euroroof is a fully warranted system that offers high tensile strength and pliability and excellent resistance to puncture and UV degradation. The Mastergold membrane is available with a black mineral finish and can be used with a range of insulations to suit specification and U-value parameters.
