Playrite, the advanced sports surface manufacturer, have transformed a 20,000sqm driving range which had been in place for nearly 30 years, into one of the finest Golf practise facilities in the UK. World of Golf driving range at New Malden, Surrey had fallen into a state of disrepair and required bringing back to life to be able to offer the golfing fraternity of New Malden a great practice facility.
Initially the brief was to cover the driving range in green carpet to replicate the fairways like all golf courses up and down the country. Steve Byrnes from Playrite, working alongside the contractors realised there was an opportunity to create something unique to World of Golf. The idea was to create a theme to make it much more adventurous, and more like a real golf course with rough fairways and water hazards. Inspiration came from the Medina Golf course, USA home of the 2012 Ryder Cup with the introduction of 6 targets imitating the famous course.
This fantastic new facility was created using a variety of Playrite products to give texture and realism.
Over 3 miles of seaming tape was used during the construction of the new range which despite some arduous conditions which included snow, -5C and the dark, was completed in 18 days from removal of the old carpet to the final finished design.
The transformation has exceeded client expectations in more ways than one. Not only is the range now aesthetically pleasing for all to use but the way that the driving range has been laid out has had an effect on the labour required to collect the golf balls, which has decreased by 90%.
World of Golf, New Malden now boasts a stunning, user friendly driving range with 60 new bays, power tees, carpet and running water.
