Tobermore SuDS Solution Employed at Ireland’s First ‘Educate Together’ School

Tobermore supplied Ballymakenny College with an aesthetically attractive and sustainable hard landscaping solution. Ballymakenny College is a pioneering new co-educational and multi-denominational secondary school in Drogheda that has made history as Ireland’s first ‘Educate Together’ school.

The community school, which has as its joint patrons Louth Meath Education and Training Board and Educate Together, was constructed by O'Hare & McGovern Ltd who has worked with Tobermore for a number of years.

Tobermore’s Tegula block paving in the muted colour of Natural was specified for the pedestrian areas around the school. Tegula is a traditional product that is manufactured to produce a charming, antique appearance.

Tobermore’s permeable Hydropave Tegula block paving was selected as a SuDS solution for the carpark to protect against the threat of flooding issues at the educational facility. Hydropave Tegula is produced with all the aesthetic benefits of non-permeable Tegula products and is available in a beautiful variety of colours. Hydropave Tegula in the colours of Natural and Charcoal were chosen to create continuity between the pedestrian and carpark areas on site.

As this project has been a success, Educate Together plans to open 10 more schools with 1,000 pupils each over the next decade in the east of the country, where demand is greatest.
