After many years of excellent service keeping audiences and performers warm at The Loft Theatre, Leamington Spa, an old gas-fired Potterton Commercial boiler has been replaced with a new high efficiency condensing Paramount wall-hung model. The original had been donated to the theatre by Potterton Commercial so, when faced with soaring energy prices, the theatre company approached Baxi Commercial Division with regard to providing an improved efficiency model to help minimise running costs. Being firmly committed to supporting charities and other community-based projects whenever possible, Baxi Commercial Division was happy to oblige.
The Loft Theatre Company has been producing live theatre in Leamington Spa since 1922. A registered charity which receives no external funding, the company is run almost entirely by volunteers who have earned a strong reputation nationally for the professional quality of their productions. These bring variety and the best in community-based theatre to Leamington Spa, Warwickshire as a whole and, indeed, to a wider audience.
Michael Rayns, Chairman of the Loft Theatre Company commented: “The old boiler, a previous gift from Potterton, gave us nearly two decades of heating. It seemed a huge machine and looked entirely at home in our cavernous boiler room. By comparison, the new boiler is very much smaller and we are looking forward to its increased efficiency showing up in correspondingly smaller gas bills. Energy costs are one of our biggest overheads and anything that we can do to reduce them is very welcome. Baxi Commercial Division’s generosity is greatly appreciated both by me and by the board of trustees and we look forward to many years of warmth from our new boiler.”
Replacing the existing Compact Diplomat model, the Paramount 40kW high efficiency, condensing boiler was installed in the same plantroom, using a horizontal concentric flue. This supplies space heating via an existing radiator system which serves front of house, backstage and bar area. A spokesman for the installers, MHP Installation & Maintenance Ltd. of Warwick, commented: “We had no problems with installation and expected none as we have previously fitted a number of these boilers for other customers.”
The Paramount range of wall-hung condensing boilers feature state-of-the-art heating technology with a combustion system which delivers energy efficiency levels up to 109% net as well as ultra low NOx which exceeds Class 5. Available in capacities from 30kW to 115kW, these boilers have pre-mix, fully modulating control for complete heating flexibility and the aluminium/silicon alloy heat exchanger carries a lifetime guarantee. A user-friendly control panel with full text display of operational status avoids the inconvenience of checking codes or lights. Other features include inbuilt weather compensation, summer/winter changeover and time control facilities. The advanced, ISR control system may be used with a simple room thermostat or, using volt-free contacts, with a fully integrated Building Energy Management System.
The Loft Theatre Company produces around nine shows each year in the main 200 seat auditorium and a smaller number in the 50 seat Douglas Ford studio theatre. Productions cover the full range of theatrical styles from classical to modern, tragedy to comedy, farce and musical theatre. The company is a member of the Little Theatre Guild of Great Britain.
