In a hidden corner of Anglesey off the north-west coast of Wales, Silver Bay Holiday Village has completed construction of a new £1.6 million leisure complex to provide a luxurious spa experience for holidaymakers. Delivered to a high specification inside and out, The Spa features a series of sweeping roofs covered in slate grey Sika-Trocal SGK waterproofing system to provide a watertight finish whilst replicating a seamed lead material.
Designed and built by Pinelog, the new leisure complex includes state-of-the-art fitness and leisure equipment, two swimming pools, steam room, jacuzzi and sauna. Located in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the spectacular complex has been built using a timber frame supported by curved glulam beams and with locally-sourced materials where possible.
With feature walls built of locally sourced stone and external walls clad in European Larch that will weather naturally to a silver grey, a high quality and aesthetically sympathetic waterproofing system was required. Pinelog and specialist contractor Redwither turned to Sika-Trocal SGK waterproofing membrane in slate grey to provide a stunning modern finish for four separate roof elements.
Utilising the straightforward and efficient application of the fully-adhered Type SGK roofing membrane, Redwither completed the installation in just six weeks. With surface falls formed towards the hidden guttering and water shoot pipes, the SGK membrane helped to deliver a stunning and visually seamless roof that was completed with fully fixed flashings.
Suitable for both new build and refurbishment applications, in both warm roof and cold roof construction, Sika-Trocal SGK is the best-cost performance bonded membrane for use on all types of substrates. Combining excellent flexibility and high resistance to ageing and weathering, Sika-Trocal SGK ensured a long-lasting and low maintenance roof covering.
Offering exceptional waterproofing, durability and a simple installation process, the fully-adhered Type SGK roofing membrane from Sika-Trocal is approved by the British Board of Agrément (BBA) to have a life expectancy of up to 30 years. With an efficient installation that helped to deliver the client’s desired aesthetic, the Type SGK system will deliver excellent performance at The Spa for many years to come.
