Project: Residential, Farnham

The managing director of a leading UK tile distributor who has overseen the construction of his new oak barn-style home has chosen the environmentally friendly underfloor heating system, Schlüter®-BEKOTEC-THERM, to heat it.
Julian Hase of Hampshire Tile Warehouse Group has seen his new two-storey property built near Farnham in Surrey which included the installation of this advanced underfloor heating system from Schlüter-Systems throughout the ground floor, which comprises a bedroom, wetroom, kitchen, hall, study and lounge.

He comments, “Once I’d decided to have underfloor heating in the property I didn’t think twice about what product to turn to. Schlüter®-BEKOTEC-THERM is the best on the market and stands out because of its thinner screed which allows for heat to be distributed quickly and therefore less energy to be used.

“With the unique screed panels and pipes installed in just two days and then the screed laid in a day it’s so quick and easy to assemble, which was another key factor as we had a fairly short time frame to complete the job before the tiling was due to begin.”

“The product’s environmental credentials were an important factor too as I have incorporated different green features such as hot water solar panels and a biomass boiler in the house to make it more energy efficient. Schlüter®-BEKOTEC-THERM also allowed me to have individual door zone timers throughout the property which close doors automatically and keep the temperature at a constant comfortable level.

He adds, “It’s an easy house to live in and that’s down in no part to the excellence of products such as Schlüter®-BEKOTEC-THERM.”

Ian Knifton, Divisional Manager at Schlüter-Systems, comments, “The modular system that makes up Schlüter®-BEKOTEC-THERM stands out as being the ideal underfloor heating system to install because it is economical, effective and energy efficient. The fact that a leading figure in the industry has installed it in his own new build property, throughout different types of room such as the lounge and the wetroom, speaks volumes about the product’s quality and suitability for any location.”

He adds, “Its low supply temperature of approximately 30°C, compared to the more conventional 50°C or the 70-90°C in some radiator systems, means Schlüter®-BEKOTEC-THERM is extremely effective both with conventional heat generation methods and regenerative energy sources such as heat pumps or solar panels making it ideal for new build properties and self build projects such as Julian’s. The optimised control technology also allows for accurate temperature settings and electronic or wireless controls offer the right solution for all building situations.”

From a construction perspective Schlüter®-BEKOTEC-THERM is quick to install due to less material being used than in other systems; highly durable, with loads in private and commercial buildings up to 5kN/m2; and has proven suitability, with damage free practical application for several years as certified by a number of independent institutes.

As well as its performance and ease of use, what makes Schlüter®-BEKOTEC-THERM really stand out from the crowd is its five year covering assembly warranty. Unlike other systems, which just provide component warranties, Schlüter®-BEKOTEC-THERM customers can have the peace of mind that our warranty covers the whole floor assembly therefore adding additional safety and benefits to this innovative system.
