Cut price fashion chain Primark’s store in Reading has used Durapipe’s leading pre-insulated pipework system, Duracool, as part of a store refurbishment.
The new pipework system was needed to carry chilled water through the store from the plant room to feed the store’s air conditioning system.
Hawkes Refrigeration Engineers & Mar-Res M&E were tasked with developing a solution that would transport the water, while using an aesthetically pleasing product as the pipework would be visible in certain areas of the store.
Duracool pre-insulated piping in sizes 63mm-110mm was specified due to its performance properties combined with its cost-effective installation. Its lightweight properties made the logistics for installation along the roof easier than if using traditional steel pipework. The easy to install plastic pipework system does not require use of specialist jointing tools or hot works resulting in a simple and easy product to work with.
Pre-insulated pipework was needed to keep water at a consistent temperature and no additional lagging is required so installation time and costs are significantly reduced.
Barry Hawkes, operations manager at Hawkes Refrigeration Engineers, comments: “We were impressed with the lightweight nature of the Duracool system, as it meant it was easier and safer to handle onsite than metal alternatives.
“All in all we found it to be the ideal product to work with, quick to install, as well as extremely high performing. As it is pre-insulated it is a simple solution to what could have been an extremely complicated job.”Duracool is a pre-insulated ABS pipework system designed to provide a high quality insulation solution for pipework systems as well as delivering reduced installation costs. Insulation is provided through a polyurethane foam which is protected by an attractive polyethylene outer casing. The lightweight product is easy to install, and doesn’t require fitting by a specialist installer as neither hot works nor manual lagging are required when installing the system.
