Pear Tree Mead School, Essex

Project: Pear Tree Mead School, Essex

Pear Tree Mead School required an outside covered area to store bikes for the pupils and staff of their school.

Having completed a site survey, Able Canopies were able to suggest a suitable installation to meet the requirements of the school; they then produced a quotation that met the design criteria and in addition gave a choice of four roof types and three frame types. On being awarded the contract, Able Canopies carried out the installation in just three days, causing minimal disruption to the day to day running of the school.

Pear Tree Mead School were offered three types of Timber shelter; The Jay Shelter, The Woodhow Shelter and the Heston Shelter all of which are designed by our award winning architect, using a complementary blend of impressive architectural features including hidden steel fixings for structural strength and sustainable resources acquired from our FSC accredited timber merchant. All of the Timber Cycle Shelters are constructed from a choice of either western red cedar or painted modified/treated timber in a range of colours. There are also four roof options to choose from; a cedar shingle roof, a sedum matting grass roof, a slate roof and a tile effect felt roof.

Pear Tree Mead School opted for the Jay Timber shelter constructed from painted modified/treated timber in the shade Rosewood Teknos and opted for the sedum matting grass roof. They also chose to extend the standard shelter from 4.2m x 4m deep to 8.4m x 4m deep, allowing for 4 bays with space for 16 bikes.

A standard Jay shelter measures 4.2m x 4m deep and can be extended as many times as required by 2.1m. The shelter is well designed with optimum head room; the approximate height at the front is 2.9m and 1.6m at the back. The Jay bike shelter can also be fitted with a back for a more enclosed structure.
