Providing stylish accommodation in a convenient location, the University of Bedfordshire’s new purpose-built residential building, Fitzroy Court, is a leading example of contemporary student housing. Looking for a trusted and long-lasting floorcovering, Campus Living Villages, the building’s owners and operators, have chosen products from Heckmondwike’s range of fibre bonded carpets as a practical and attractive solution for the project.
Almost 18,000m2 of Heckmondwike’s carpets were chosen for the building, thanks to Heckmondwike’s long standing reputation as the experts in flooring for education. Already familiar with the company’s versatile and durable carpets, having used them in several previous projects, Campus Living Villages knew they could be specified with complete confidence.
“The client required a robust flooring solution that would withstand high levels of foot traffic without losing its smart appearance,” explains Nick Perkins, Director of Hi-Tech Flooring, who installed the carpets. “Heckmondwike’s carpets had already been specified extensively in the client’s other buildings and in those belonging to the University, so we knew we could rely on the quality and strength of the products.”
Forming the main component of the design, 14,000m2 of Supacord and 3,000m2 of Montage fibre bonded sheet carpet in Anthracite were installed in the bedrooms, lounges, corridors, stairs and communal areas, including the gymnasium. With a rugged narrow-rib construction that will not fray, Supacord is a British-made carpet that offers hardwearing performance at a cost-effective price point, making it the ideal choice for education settings and a wide variety of retail and commercial projects.
Similarly, Montage, with its distinctive random textured surface design, is perfect for locations where aesthetic appearance and performance are of equal importance. Available in a wide range of colour options, Montage maintains its good looks in even the most demanding environments. In addition, both Supacord and Montage deliver excellent acoustic and thermal performance, making them ideal solutions for the student accommodation building.
To complete the specification, 800m2 of Heckmondwike’s Battleship carpet was installed in all of the main entrance areas, to minimise foot-borne dirt and moisture being tracked into the building. Specifically designed for areas with particularly heavy wear, Battleship features a striking ribbed surface structure, which acts as an interceptor to remove grit particles and moisture from shoes.
Commenting on the completed installation, Iain Wilson, Operations Manager at Campus Living Villages said: “Our aim is to create comfortable and stylish living accommodation for our student residents, and the attractive and practical carpets provided by Heckmondwike have certainly helped us to achieve that goal.”
As the established UK specialist in fibre bonded carpets, Heckmondwike has more than 30 years of industry experience. With a wide range of colours and finishes, the company is able to offer a high-quality solution for all education, commercial and public sector settings.
