An array of Schlüter-Systems products have played a major part in the transformation of one of the Southbank’s most impressive buildings into a luxurious riverside hotel.
Originally conceived as a luxury accommodation, Sea Containers House was eventually completed to become office space. However, thanks to new investment from Morgan’s Hotel Group the former offices will now become Mondrian Hotel London, with Schlüter-Systems products specified throughout the 360 guest rooms.
Due to open its doors in spring 2014, the hotel has seen Schlüter’s innovative products being used within guest shower rooms, with Schlüter®-KERDI-LINE, Schlüter®-QUADEC, Schlüter®-SCHIENE, and Schlüter®-DITRA all used to create an attractive space, whilst providing the ultimate in protection.
Dave Honey, Operations Manager at Marmi Ltd who undertook the installation work commented on how impressed he was by the Schlüter®-WETROOM range.
“Schlüter®-KERDI-LINE is the ideal solution for the hotel’s floor level showers, especially as it can suit a range of contemporary designs and has the flexibility of having a range of lengths, connections and grate options.
The installation itself was straightforward, with no hassle or issues, with the Schlüter®-SCHIENE threshold strips, along with the Schlüter®-QUADEC wall profiles, being used to complete an aesthetically pleasing installation. Throughout the whole process we were also very fortunate to receive great support from the Schlüter-Systems technical team with DVD guides and support available throughout the installation.”
Ian Knifton, Divisional Manager, said, “The Sea Containers House has been a part of the Thames scenery for over 40 years and its great to see our products being used to bring new life and luxury to this riverside gem.
Whilst the Schlüter®-DITRA provides a universal substrate for tile coverings, which serves as an uncoupling layer, bonded waterproofing assembly and vapour pressure equalisation layer, our range of profiles and trims has also appealed to the architects on this project thanks to their ability to add that stylish and slick finish.”
Schlüter®-DITRA has been a proven solution for uncoupling and bonded waterproofing for over 20 years and remains unique to the market due to its geometry which allows for the absorption of lateral movement in each direction. The uncoupling effect that it provides neutralises tensions between surfaces, whilst also providing a high load resistance. It’s also waterproof, with the added benefit of interconnected air channels to help moisture evaporate from the substrate.
Schlüter®-KERDI-LINE channel bodies are made of solid stainless steel. They are available in different versions for central and offset along with horizontal and vertical drainage. The drains come in a range of different lengths, with designer grate options, closed, perforated, tile pan and tile covering support. The channel bodies of Schlüter®-KERDI-LINE are designed for variable installation in perimeter and intermediate areas. The pre-adhered Schlüter®-KERDI allows for secure waterproofing in all configurations and used in conjunction with Schlüter®-DITRA and Schlüter®-KERDI creates a guaranteed waterproofing solution for walls and floors.
Schlüter®-QUADEC offers edge porotection and decoration in a wide range of finishes whether the design calls for the profiles to blend or be complementary accent for skirting, tile edges, external corners and tiled walls and other coverings, whilst Schlüter®-SCHIENE, the original finishing threshold strip for floors and walls, offers the perfect protection. It finishes tiled surfaces and protects the outer edges of ceramic and natural stone floor coverings from mechanical impact.
