Ultra Floor’s Level IT one HDB has been used to refurbish the foyer area of the Millennium Gallery in Sheffield.
The Millennium Gallery is an art gallery and museum in the centre of Sheffield and forms part of Sheffield’s Heart of the City project, a scheme that has created many new public spaces, buildings and skyscrapers.
Great Northern Tiling secured the contract to install under floor heating and to prepare and lay 600 x 300mm polished porcelain grey tiles in the reception area of the gallery.
The work was carried out within a tight time frame and during gallery opening hours using Ultra Floor’s single part smoothing compound Level IT one HDB and tile adhesive ProFlex SP and FlexJoint grout from sister brand Ultra Tile.
Existing floor covering and levelling compound were removed before Level IT one HDB was applied to level out the substrate. It is a rapid hardening water mix compound which is designed to smooth undulations in cementitious floor substrates and to build depths of up to 50mm. It can be pumped or poured and has a high compressive strength of 38N/mm® making it ideal for use over concrete, cement, screeds and stone/tiled sub floors as well as floors with under floor heating. Thereafter, the heating elements were laid, primed and a further layer of Level IT one HDB applied to encase the elements, thus providing a sound foundation on to which the tiles could be fixed.
The installation completed 4 days ahead of schedule due to the materials exceptional performance and ease of use. The gallery foyer now boasts a stylish entrance and makes a befitting addition to Sheffield’s premier destination for art, craft and design.
