High-tech client, high-tech balustrade design

Project: Waters Mass Spectrometry Headquarters, Wilmslow

Situated on the 37-acre Stamford Lodge site in Wilmslow, Cheshire, this new facility is intended to unite Waters' existing mass spectrometry operations, consisting of more than 500 employees. The new facility includes state-of-the-art customer demonstration laboratories, research and development capabilities, and an expanded manufacturing capacity.

The building is being constructed to the BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methods) ‘very good’ standard. Waters Corporation is also committed to the sustainability of the project and protecting the local flora and fauna which has included construction of a purpose-built bat house as well as re-planting trees and landscaping the site with the aim of improving the wildlife in the area.

High quality finish and ease of assembly

Q-railing recommended installer Dearneside Fabrications were tasked with installing over 200 linear metres of Q-railing's Easy Glass Slim balustrade. This is one of the sleekest and most affordable solutions in Q-railing’s range of minimalist glass railing systems.

175 metres of structural glass balustrade were installed to the atrium. And a further 25 metres were used on the two staircases leading up to the atrium level. Q-railing was selected for the high quality finish and ease of assembly, which speeds up installation while able to achieve the loadings required

The flagship project, just three miles south of Manchester Airport, has been designed to move this high technology business forward and provide a world class centre for innovation in mass spectrometry.
