Architect, 3DReid, has specified Construction Specialties’ (C/S) high performance Pedigrid® entrance mat at The Co-operative Group’s new £100m Manchester head office, One Angel Square.
It was important that all elements of the flagship 15 storey office build reflected the company’s strong ethical and sustainable stance throughout. Helping to regenerate the city centre, the award winning head office is rated ‘outstanding’ by the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM).
Suitable for demanding internal environments, C/S’s Pedigrid entrance matting contributed to several criteria that supported the building’s BREEAM accreditation, including ‘lifecycle impacts’ and ‘designing for robustness’.
Pedigrid was chosen for its ability to deliver optimum protection from the high footfall passing through and with a surface absorption area of 85%, the bespoke high dirt containment mat offers unique in-use benefits and will ultimately reduce cleaning and maintenance requirements.
Designed exclusively for recessed installations, C/S’s Pedigrid is a system of removable grille sections that allows water, dirt and snow to fall between the heel proof treads into a drainable 44mm deep well below. The depth of the Pedigrid matches that of the thick cut terrazzo stone tile chosen for the foyer floor finish, which meant that only minimal screeding of the mat well was required to install the matting. Aesthetically, carpet inserts in ‘Midnight Blue’ were chosen to complement the colour of the terrazzo tiles.
Kate Waterston, UK Sales Manager at Construction Specialties said: “Pedigrid is the only mat of this kind on the market. It is specifically designed for high traffic new builds and will stop the ingress of damaging debris into the new building, helping to increase the lifespan of internal floors.”
The installation was completed by C/S’s in-house installation team, Conspec Contracts.
