Having been destroyed by fire in 2009, Campsmount Technology College in Doncaster has now risen from the ashes with a brand new, state-of-the-art building. The £10.5 million facility has been fitted out with a variety of vinyl flooring solutions from Tarkett, including specialist safety and sports flooring.
Titan Flooring installed over 8000m2 of Tarkett products throughout Campsmount, including Micra Premium in all circulation zones and stairwells. Micra Premium is a homogeneous, high quality vinyl flooring ideal for schools and other public buildings, providing a hard-wearing, cost effective solution for high traffic areas. It includes a PUR reinforcement meaning no wax or polish is ever needed and offers easy, low-cost maintenance. The choice of 30 colours with a subtle, non-directional pattern allow for the creation of fresh and attractive designs. At Campsmount, coloured borders have been created to distinguish different areas of the school and to aid navigation around the complex.
“This was a challenging project due to programming constraints” explained David Cartwright of Titan Flooring. “We were able to work closely with Tarkett’s logistical team to meet with tight lead in times and overcome difficult site restrictions. Tarkett offer a refreshing approach, supporting their clients throughout the procurement and installation of each project and beyond.”
Safety underfoot was a key requirement for the science, art and technology classrooms, as well as in the toilets and changing rooms. A selection of Tarkett safety flooring was used to meet these needs, including Safetred Spectrum for the classrooms. This heavy traffic vinyl flooring is ideal for areas where slip resistance, attractive design and ease of maintenance are key considerations. Spectrum offers sustainable R10 slip resistance guaranteed throughout the product’s life, and the Safety Clean XP surface treatment ensures easy, low-cost maintenance. Safetred Universal offers all the benefits of Spectrum in a tough, durable finish and was chosen for the toilets and changing rooms where slip resistance is a priority.
The school’s sports hall is used for a variety of activities including sports, dance and theatrical productions. To meet these diverse needs, it was decided to divide the room into two halves. One side has been fitted with Tarkett’s Omnisports Compact, a 2mm thick point-elastic vinyl sports flooring that is suitable for all types of sports and non-sporting activities. The other half features Tarkett’s Omnisports Excel, an 8.3mm thick point-elastic sports surface that combines higher shock absorption with strong surface reactivity for ball rebound and foot control. All Tarkett Omnisports floors are compliant with EN 14904 to ensure player comfort and safety.
