Brighton Museum & Art Gallery is located in the iconic Royal Pavilion garden, at the heart of the city’s cultural quarter. It’s diverse collections brings together the arts with local, world and natural history. The institution attracts approximately 260, 000 visitors per year.
Matting was required to comply with Health & Safety regulations on all of the main front entrances. Industry research has shown that 94% of all dirt that enters a building is brought in on the soles of shoes or by wheeled traffic. This dirt creates a safety issue due to the increased risks of slips, trips or falls. The floors in the historic building can also suffer damage from grit bought in through the entrances.
The free Quantum Specialist Measuring Service, QSMS, was used and within 24 hours of contact by the flooring contractor, a Quantum Flooring Solutions surveyor had measured up and templated both the mats. This survey was completed outside of the museum opening hours so as not to negatively impact the visitor experience at the museum.
Quantum Flooring Solutions also offered a “Aid and Assist” service on the day of install to oversee and guide the floor fitter on how to fit the Matting correctly.
The recessed Matting helps to prevent slips when the weather is wet by retaining moisture and loose material with it’s textile insert. As well as a much safer entrance for the museum, the Matting will also help to prolong the life of floor and therefore reduce associated maintenance costs.
