Polyflor puts Roald Dahl in hospital

Brightly coloured Roald Dahl characters, snakes and ladders boards, alphabets and department signage - inset into timber effect sheet vinyl flooring in corridors and wards - help provide a cheerful ambience for staff and young patients in the new-build Neurosciences Unit, Alder Hey Hospital, Royal Liverpool Children’s NHS Trust.

Created via the Polyflor Expressions Design Service, which uses computerised water jet cutting techniques to produce precise shapes and styles, the decorative designs employ a variety of shades from the Polyflor XL PU range of heavy duty vinyls which are inset into cherry timber effect sheet vinyl from Polyflor’s innovative Forest FX range.

“The inlaid decoration is really effective and the choice of flooring has proved ideal for achieving the effects we were looking for” said Mr John Williams, RLC NHS Trust, Capital Projects Manager.

The flooring was installed by flooring contractors PKL Healthcare, of Cheltenham.

Sophisticated and highly realistic wood designs in an impressive choice of shades and textures are key features of Forest FX. With a 0.7mm wearlayer, Forest FX has excellent durability and is ideally suited to high traffic commercial applications. The range also features a low maintenance polyurethane reinforcement (PUR) which protects the floor and facilitates a polish-free maintenance regime.

Polyflor XL PU, in 24 colours, features a specially formulated polyurethane surface treatment, reducing maintenance costs by up to 24% by improving the soil resistance and cleanability of the floor.

Both products have been independently tested and results demonstrate that they inhibit the growth of MRSA. An effective cleaning regime is, however, the most important defence against infection.

In common with all Polyflor sheet vinyls, both products can be welded at the seams and to coved skirtings to create continuous, impervious surfaces offering no sanctuary to dirt and bacteria.
