Inspired by Oculus, this talk brings together those who have worked on Sandbag Igloo projects - also known as 'super-adobe' structures - to discuss the pros and cons of using sandbags and other intermediate technologies in the third world. Article 25 will also be on hand to discuss their work.
Sandbag construction was pioneered in the USA by Cal-Earth, they are very quick to build and inherently wind and earthquake resistant. The geometrical domes are constructed from sandbags and barbed wire and then plastered in order to keep the integrity of the bags.
Hear about Igloos for the Namib, an FCBStudios charity project, and join an open discussion on similar projects in the fitting setting of Oculus.
