The face of London is changing. Today’s architects have an exciting range of traditional and new materials to choose from and the façade technology exists to allow these to be applied with confidence. More enlightened planning, an understanding of new systems and the need for more sustainable wall systems are all contributing to this new face. A new sense of place is being created by a new generation of buildings by architects who are not afraid to break away from the traditional.
The exhibition will present projects by 20 exciting young London-based architects. Presented in a digitally designed exhibition display system, the images, materials and assemblies will show the development of the facades from concept to application. The exhibition will provide insight into a world that usually seen only from the outside – scratching the surface to reveal what makes a modern façade.
During July and August The Building Centre and New London Architecture are running a number of free morning talks to coincide with the Scratching the Surface exhibition. All talks will focus on the façade technology of projects included in the exhibition.
